Flu, Basketball, A-Fraud and other ramblings

Ok peeps, we’re going a little off topic to get started. It’s the Flu, get over it. I’m going to end up working extra this week/weekend/next week/next 6 months because of this damn thing. 1,000 people have died of the regular flu since January in the US alone and nobody freaked out about that. The media is into sensationalism, because that’s what sells. I encourage everyone who reads this (crickets chirping) to not freak out, to wash your hands and to stay home if you do get sick. Other than that, Just live you life (A-yay, A- Yay A- Yay, A-Yay.) The only other course of action I support is to call off work for the next month to stop the spread of the flu. In reality, this will just cause everyone to go to their favorite watering hole, just like a snow day in college. Think how much fun this would be, and how much stress could be relieved by doing this. Heart disease is a much bigger problem than the Mexican flu. This would lower stress, which can cause heat disease! Brilliant! Seriously though, if the diplomats from North Korea and the US ended up at the same bar during said snow month, think how much could get resolved.

Now, on to sports topics. I’m not normally one for NBA basketball. I start paying attention come playoff time, and rarely plan on watching the playoff games until at least the conference finals. Tonight however, is an exception. Far and away, the Bulls-Celtics match up is the best first round match up I’ve ever seen. 3 out of the 5 games have gone into overtime so far. Celts lead 3-2, but tonight’s game is at the United Center. Bulls fans haven’t been this excited since 98. That game tips at 6.
Next up at 6:30 is Magic-76ers. Magic will be playing without Dwight Howard and it’s in Philly. No worries if the Magic lose. They’ll be back in Orlando, at full strength for game 7
The late game is at 8:30 in Houston. I really don’t care about this game though.

On to A-Rod. Can this guy stay out of the tabloids. He’s still on the DL, not currently hooking up with a celebrity, and still in the news. Of course, on top of all of his issues (choke artist in playoff games, admitting to steroids, divorce, posing in strange, picture hugging himself) he appears to be a pathological liar as well. The man keeps changing his story about steroids. I can forgive origionally lying to Katie Couric on 60 minutes, but after he confirmed that he did indeed take steroids, why not lay everything on the table and spell out exactly what he had done. Instead, he keeps giving half truths that turn out to be whole lies. Now the word is that he could have been taking steroids as early as High School, which means his entire career has been a lie. But, how bad does it look since he was already caught lying twice (Couric and to Peter Gammons on ESPN). Both times he lied about when he started taking steroids. I know the Yankees have him under contract until like 2050, but at some point they seriously have to consider buying out his contract and telling him to just stay home. If it turns out that A-Rod has been using since high school, that would be a good time for the Yankees to just tell him to get lost and buy out his contract. Recession and bad new stadium revenue be damned.

Alright, we started with a non sports topic, and I’ll end with one. America, how can you possibly put Adam in your bottom two? At least you got it right with Allison not being in the bottom 3, but seriously, Adam deserves to win the competition. My guess is that he will actually be just fine and go on to win Idol. Most people probably voted for their other favorites thinking Adam would be safe anyway (See: Daughty, Chris). Next week, I’m guessing Adam isn’t in the bottom 3.

Until next time, stay healthy and wash your hands!
